🗜️ Image Compressor
Shrink image file size directly in your browser. Adjust quality, resize dimensions, compare before-and-after results, and download instantly without uploading photos anywhere.
How Local In-Browser Compression Works
ToolsHub uses the HTML5 Canvas 2D API to render your loaded image in your browser's graphics memory. When re-encoding, the browser's native codecs apply discrete cosine transforms (DCT) for JPEG or predictive VP8 encoding for WebP. This strips redundant metadata (EXIF/color profiles) and quantizes high-frequency color variations that the human eye cannot discern.
Browser Limits & Best Practices
- Recommended File Size: Photos up to 50MB work smoothly. Extremely high-resolution panoramas (e.g. 100+ Megapixels) might consume significant browser RAM.
- WebP Format: Selecting WebP typically yields an extra 20–30% file size reduction compared to standard JPEG while preserving clarity.
- Zero Data Upload: Everything is processed locally in your machine's hardware. Your photos remain 100% confidential.
How to use Image Compressor
Choose a quality level, output format and maximum dimensions after selecting an image. Compare the original and compressed sizes before downloading.
What to check before using the result
JPEG discards transparency. PNG quality settings do not work like JPEG quality, and some images may grow instead of shrinking.
Example: Preparing a photo for a website
For a 4000 × 3000 photo, try a maximum dimension of 1920 pixels and a JPEG or WebP quality around 80%. Inspect edges, text and fine detail, and compare the actual file size. Savings depend on the source image.
